"Not only about Japanese language, but also Japanese culture"

The Bachelor Programme in Japanese focuses on Japanese language and cultural competence. The bachelor programme educates students to be able to communicate using Japanese actively and passively. The lecture system at the Bachelor Programme in Japanese is not aimed at producing writers, but scholars who have scientific competence in Japanese language and culture.

The Bachelor Programme in Japanese at Maranatha Christian University is a learning center that is creative and reliable in fostering Japanese language and culture based on the love and example of Jesus Christ

Academic Activities

The Bachelor Programme in Japanese has two concentration areas: ​​Japanese language and culture. The following courses are the flagships of the Bachelor Programme in Japanese which are integrated into the curriculum:

  • Japanese Language Proficiency Test Preparation Course
  • Japanese Business Course
  • Courses in the study and practice of popular culture, such as the study of film, anime, and Japanese drama performance

Class activities are carried out interactively, such as in the form of drama performance in the campus theater, culinary practice and serving various Japanese dishes in the culinary laboratory, and watching and discussing Japanese popular culture products.

Students have the opportunity to study Japanese language and culture in Japan through several student exchange programs at partner universities in Japan. Students also have the opportunity to do intern at Japanese industry or companies through an internship program.

 

Future and Career

Graduates have strong Japanese language competence, knowledge of Japanese culture, and cultural sensitivity to establish mutually beneficial relationships especially with Japanese parties. Graduates can pursue a career as:

  • Japanese communicator; interpreter/translator; tour guide; service providers in hotel, tourism and culinary industries
  • Workers in Japanese industries
  • Workers and entrepreneurs in creative industry
  • Japanese language tutor
